Looks great, doesn’t it? A simple, tasteful design of a butterfly gracing your lower back. In your low-rise jeans it’s just a little tease when you bend down - a small hint that there’s something lurking underneath it all. There’s more to you than what’s on the outside…and screw those people that call it a tramp stamp…it’s what you really wanted.
But what happens if you regret your choice?
When you’re 50 and still have your tattoo, will it still hold the mysticism and charm that it did when you went under the needle? At 80 will it still look the same? Or will you wish you’d never gone that route? It’s challenging to ask the “what if” questions in life, but in the case of Tattoos, I’d beg to differ. I think some self reflection is necessary to really think through the process and the reasons why.
My friend Tallia has several tattoos - on her ankle, shoulder blade, lower back and just above her left breast. Her visual is that of unicorn, teddy bear, dragon and bird - four things that symbolize her personality at different times in her life. The unicorn was her first tattoo for her metaphysical interests, then came the teddy bear for comfort, the dragon for powerful spirit and a bird for freedom. All these ideals were permanently placed on her body as a sort-of chronology of life.
Can we then call tattoos, a type of body-blog? If so, do we wear our tattoos as a badge of courage, or a prize that we’ve won during the trials and tribulations in life? And what when we get through that particular time in life when our comforting teddy bears are of no use to us anymore?
I have so far in life, not made a choice for a tattoo, but I often wonder what design I would get. I suppose it would depend on what was going on in my life at that time, and what emblem I needed to symbolize my angst, fear, spirit or accomplishment.

This is an interesting topic for sure!! I myself often thought about what my Tats are gonna look like when Im 60-70…But to be honest when thought about longer realized why do I care…By the time Im as old as my Gran I will probably be wearing purple polyster and no longer a bathsuite..lol!! They are a journey through my life and they have a story and I do not regret getting them…as a matter of fact I would love to get more..There is so much more to be said about my life and everyone important, here and gone in it!! Tats are a perfect way to express love, lust, hate, desire, dreams anything you want. I say live for today…yes think about tomorrow…I would rather die with regrets then regret having done nothing at all!!!
